Katie P's A-Z of Rock

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Hello!

Katie P is putting together a special Xfm rock show (Saturdays 10pm-2am in London and Manchester and xfm.co.uk) to feature an alphabetical list of her listeners' favourite bands. Starting at A and ending in Z, to air the week after next.

I'm only telling you so that you can email katie@xfm.co.uk with your personal list and maybe she'll play your selection and give you a 'shout out' live on air. Oh and if you want to Kill Casino in as your K... that would be cool too. I know that Kill Switch Engage, Korn and Kill Hannah are basically shitting it now that we are in the running.

Here's my list:

Against Me!
Billy Talent
Converge
The Distillers
E town concrete
Fear Factory
Gay for Johnny Depp
Hole
Incubus
John Frusciante (Does he count as a band?)
Kill Casino
Lost Prophets
Marilyn Manson
Nirvana
Operation Ivy
Pantera
Queens of the Stone Age
Rancid
System of a Down
Tegan & Sara
Unearth
Vision of Disorder
Waterdown
Xray specs
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Zounds

By the way, I found the best way to do this is scroll through itunes when you get stuck for a band on one of the tricky letters. Or use one of those guitar tab websites if you don't have much music.

Underwater Lyrics

We've had a few questions about the lyrics to Underwater so here they are in all their glory..

Underwater

I like the quiet moments
Tranquility and Me
Chasing down the wall of sound
And defying Gravity

Put an ear to the ground
Never know what's lurking underneath
Taken by surprise
A thousand onlookers, a thousand pairs of eyes

Underwater it's so distorted
But I'm safe from prying eyes
I fight and I'll keep fighting but I'm drowning at the same time

I like the tender moments
Just me, myself and I
Taking time to realign and
Taking time to satisfy

All I need, you're all I need
All I need is a little sanctuary, a place to call my own

Day 2 in the studio and a Special Guest!

We were back in the studio today (errmm... technically yesterday now cos it's late). I managed distract Karen whilst she was recording some shouty vocals through Ben's megaphone.

We were also joined in the studio briefly by a special guest who has promised to come back and shout through the megaphone for us. Just don't make him angry!!!

By the way Ben, who is taking care of production duties, plays in  Stereo Juggernaut. Check 'em out!

Our thoughts go out to everyone who's back to school, work, college, uni or prison tomorrow. That sucks but don't worry it'll be summer soon! Unless you are in prison, in which case it will still suck.

Where the magic happens!

Yesterday we went back into the studio with Ben the Magician to work on some new tracks. We've got drums and guitars recorded for four new songs and yesterday we put down vocals for new track Reykjavik and got started on another as yet untitled track.

As always, to get in the 'zone' Karen donned her Corey Taylor from Slipknot mask and red boiler suit. She kept on muttering something about the 'sickness' and 'new shit for the maggots' and was refusing to have her picture taken.

I thought it was probably best to leave her alone, so here's a pic of Paul-Luc at the controls and me looking goofy on a sofa.

What did you get up to? I was lucky enough to go and watch The Impossible play in the new year in a squated pub in south east London. Sure as hell beats singing auld lang syne. This pic was taken during some improvised, psychedelic, punk, funk action. Nice!
This the first picture I've uploaded from my brand new camera. Stay tuned for lots more once I work out how to work the damn thing!
Happy new year!

Heading home to eat lots of food and wrap presents this weekend, I picked up a copy of Rocksound to read on the train out of London. I was pleased to see two girls on the cover, Cristina from Lacuna Coil and Hayley from Paramore, and not a hairy dude in sight!
That's got to be a world first for a rock music magazine?!?
(Ok I just realised that there may have been two men on the plastic wrapper around the mag that stops people from stealing the free CD. But I threw that in the bin so it doesn't count, right?)

Hope you all get something nice! See you with new socks on soon,
Chris kc

92!

I've just seen on youtube that our end of year podcast received a rosette for being the 92nd most viewed UK musician video yesterday. Safe! Girls Aloud were at number 1, Biffy Clyro only at number 25. Who said the charts are dead? Chris kc

End of year Podcast

We've put together a 'round up of their year that's just been and a look forward to the next one' Podcast. It's a state of the world address, a bit like the Queen mixed with Biohazard. But where the hell is Paul-Luc?

Oh and don't forget to have a look at our sexy Kerrang! poster on our page or in the Mag. Out now!
